ARIPO participated in the forty-fifth World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) session held from 15 to 19 April 2024.
Represented by Mrs. Maureen Fondo, the Head of Copyright and Related Rights, ARIPO engaged in discussions within the Africa Group on various Agenda items. ARIPO offered guidance in the norm-setting process and provided technical assistance to its Member States and the Africa Group to make informed decisions.
On the sidelines of the SCCR, ARIPO networked with strategic partners, presented projects beneficial to Member States for donor consideration, and followed up on collaboration issues. These efforts have resulted in financial and technical support for ARIPO activities.
As an Observer Organization, the SCCR provides a platform for ARIPO to contribute to copyright norm-setting processes that impact its Member States. By actively participating in these discussions and collaborating with strategic partners, ARIPO strengthens its role as a key player in intellectual property matters within Africa and globally.
