ARIPO has since 2018 recognised and celebrated Africa Copyright and Collective Management Day in collaboration with the Member States and its Partners. For the 2024 celebrations, ARIPO is collaborating with the Patents and Companies Registration Agency and the CMOs in Zambia to engage key stakeholders and rights holders and discuss how Zambia could strengthen its Copyright and Related Rights System to benefit rights holders under the theme: “Empowering Creative Industries Stakeholders-Building A Sustainable Future for Copyright and Related Rights”.
ARIPO was created, inter alia to develop appropriate IP laws, establish common services and training schemes, and assist in technology acquisition and advancement. In 2002, the mandate of the Organization was further expanded to include Copyright and Related Rights.
It is against this background that the Strategic Plan for Copyright and Collective Management Organizations (CMOs), which was validated in June 2017 in Kigali by the CMOs from the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization and the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) agreed to celebrate the Africa Copyright and Collective Management Day yearly on 14th September to raise awareness on Copyright and Collective Management.
